Erm... but that preference will clear the playlist for you?

Edit:

Ohh, you meant as in if you want to retain your current playlist in Cog, with the currently playing song and place in the Shuffle, if Shuffle's on.

Well, yeah, pretty much the only way is to keep the current playlist whilst playing some other file(s) is to open up another app.

If you're using the 0.08 nightly builds:

Cog > Preferences...

Playlist pane

Set "When opening files" to "Clear playlist and play"

Yeah, but a screen shot would be a picture, not text.

I agree this isn't too important, but it sure would be a nice little extra feature to have in the future.

Basically, I'm imagining a "Create text file of current playlist" command, which, when used, pops up a dialog asking which tags to include, then Save, and voila, a text file. You can copy paste or print it afterwards.

A thought:

Perhaps when in the future, Cut/Copy/Paste is implemented for the playlist, we could also have the option of "smart copy paste" just like in the Finder.

In the Finder, say you copy a file or files. If you do Paste in another folder, it'll paste that file/those files in that folder, of course. But if you paste in a text field in some other app, it'll paste the file name of that file/those files.

That's pretty smart in my opinion.

I'd be cool if Cog could do something like that someday. (Copy a playlist entry or entries. Then if you paste somewhere else in the playlist, it pastes the entry there. But if you paste in a text field, it pastes the name.)

Back in December 2007, he mentioned something about minor surgery.

Don't know if that's related...

Hope he's OK as well.

Perhaps he's just busy with life. (You know, that thing some people have.)

This has been recently fixed! (r905 I believe)

Awesome!!

To be fair, the toolbar button does indeed not work right now.

r907

There is no Growl notification.
The Stop menu item is inactive.

But the position/seek slider will become active.

Perhaps the icons should disappear at a certain size (a size where the icons start to overlap) and smaller.

Yeah, the font size should be limited to a certain range. (the smallest being at a point before the letters become pretty much unreadable)

Sure, it would not allow for "lololo teh letter r so tiny" fun, but it'd be a little more sensible.

Unstable build now updated to r909.

Also, a few little suggestions:

1) Instead of the term "Side View," I suggest that "Pane" should be used. I think that's the actual term for that UI element. Also, it's not only on the side; it can also be at the bottom, so it shouldn't be "Side Pane" either, just plain "Pane."

2) Instead of "Toggle Orientation," may I suggest a sub-menu:

Pane Orientation >
-Left
-Right
-Bottom

And with the "Right" option, I think this would cover all the bases. (I don't think anybody would want the pane at the top... I think.)

One more random thought:

Say we do have everything available as a pane. In such a case, I think this would work best:

sub-menus:

Left Pane >
Right Pane >
Bottom Pane >

And for each:

-Off
-File Tree
-Spotlight
-Info

Neat. This works surprisingly well.

I wonder if anyone actually still prefer the panel/floating window though.

The panel still offers the advantage that it can be placed anywhere and can be completely different shapes and sizes than the main window.

That, however, is also its weakness; because it is completely separate from the main window, if you want to move "Cog," you'd have to move the main window, then move the File Tree Panel (and the Spotlight Panel if that's open as well).

I wonder if it's worth also offering the panels/floating windows as well as the panes.

Also, I do agree that the Info Drawer should be turned into a pane.

Or even better, an Inspector/floating window, such that its larger size would make it ready if one day, tag viewing/editing is added.

Seems like drawers are slowly being phased out nowadays... One thing I never liked about drawers is that they can appear either at the top/bottom (or on the left/right) depending on the window's location/size.
