Topic: anyone know what's going on with spader...

or cog's development in general? haven't seen any action from vs on the forums & development-wise things have seemed pretty tame for a while now, so i'm just wondering.

Yeah me too. Either something personal happened, that he don't care to involve us in. Fair enough.

Or he simply lost interest in Cog... Technically I guess anyone could move on with the project (fork it).

I must admit I don't follow the  forum regularly, as it is a bit boring, when there are no development.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

i don't know, but i hope he's well.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

Back in December 2007, he mentioned something about minor surgery.

Don't know if that's related...

Hope he's OK as well.

Perhaps he's just busy with life. (You know, that thing some people have.)

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

i hope he's alright as well, it's just well... i would definitely think that being the lead developer on a kick-ass audio player like cog would be at-least somewhat a part of vs's life. which is precisely why i'm curious.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

I hate to say this... But if cog don't receive any attention it wont grow in popularity, and it wont evolve.

As I don't know anything about code I can't really contribute beyond ideas and tests and maybe some logistics.

Should we try to fork the project? So far it has mostly been a one man project, but we could establish a framework for developing the project? Try to get more developers to help, maybe do an effort getting a designer to help?

I don't want to 'steal' the project, but the whole idea in open source is that if a project is abandoned then others can take over.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

Hi all.

Sorry to be a bother. I've been very busy with some changes happening in my life. Needless to say, I'm doing well big_smile.

Cog will also be fine. I've been keeping my hands off the project for the past few months because of some uncertainties.

I will still be keeping my hands off for the next few weeks, but I'll be able to start back up shortly after. When I do, there are a few minor restrictions on future development:
* Cog can no longer play obscure formats.
* All songs must have a minimum 2 seconds of silence between them.
* Playback must contain a 17kHz tone so young whippersnappers won't use it.

Actually, those are just new features I've been considering roll. Here are the actual restrictions:
*  No more donations. It's been disabled for a few weeks now and nobody seems to have noticed, so I don't think I'm missing out on much tongue.
*  Cog can't have a store. Since a store is the last thing I'd want in Cog, I don't think that's a problem either.

That's all! Cog will still be open source, waiting to be forked at the drop of a hat. wink

intriguing... tongue glad the news is good tho, & welcome home wink

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

Cool, glad to hear everything is good.

Seriously, Cog must be quite a handful for a (mostly) one-man-team. I have been thinking of ways to get more people to work on it - especially the visual side of things. If you are interested you can get in touch via email.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

it's alive!

glad to hear you're doing well vs big_smile

So the prodigal s-- erm.. admin returns.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

Heyho from Germany!
Thank you for your great app, its to date the best i could find for playing my FLAC files.
I dunno if i can be of any help, but if there's something like localisation planned i surely would be here to help out.
Cheers!

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

Thanks for this application, I'm actually a Cocoa developer, but I don't really have much times to help around this days. If I get more time I will gladly help.

Re: anyone know what's going on with spader...

Glad to hear vspader is doing okay and that there were few updates with regard to Cog. I really look forward to more developments as the site looks promising and it gets us people to talk about related things. More power to Cog!
