Re: Audio output chain: customisable with Audio Units? (17 replies, posted in Features)
Hi haleakalari
Im well aware of Audio Units. Again I will repeat as you decided to disregard my main point. Audio units belong in apps like Logic, and other such applications created for audio editing, sound design, recording and mixing. Logic and Cog are worlds a part, one is an ipod the other is a recording studio. Now in perspective, chaining my eventide h8000 off the back of my ipod would to me seem like a crazy pointless exercise.
At the not so rapid pace of development Cog has seen, there are certainly higher priorities to get basic functionality sorted out. Adding Audio Units will consume far too much of the developers time and add un-needed bloat to an otherwise simple playback piece of code. After all Cog is a free application.

No offence but I think Cog has been designed with the vision of providing simple playback of audio files with encodings other than Quicktime supported formats such as the ones iTunes refuse to support. I also think the development cost required to support this request for 0.1% of users is rather low on priority.
I think if your room is poorly designed and requires correction it may be worth employing a studio designer/acoustics engineer to solve your room's problems. I've not been to an operational studio yet that uses the kind of software you mention to correct nodes/anodes across the frequency spectrum.
Are you an audio engineer or just a regular guy who wants to play their music collection?
Aside from a touch of EQ or mix bus compression on a DJ mix, I don't see why an end user should be messing with music a mix engineer has spent tireless hours perfecting in controlled environment. Even if you really are wishing to mutilate someone else's music, I still believe Cog is not the application to delve in these wild experiments.

Hi, does Cog have the ability to play mounted Toast "SD2F" Audio images yet?
It would be wikid Cog can use my audio images that are mounted by the Finder also would be killer to have GraceNote CDDB or Musicbrainz CD database implemented to load the disk name/track names etc.
If Cog had disc image support an a basic Equalizer like iTunes then finally Cog would satisfy everything I need for playing audio. Cog is shaping up to be a wikid app. keep it up man.

Does the Info draw really need to be so big and use sooooooooo much space up?
Really could you not just use the Status bar at the bottom of the window? Currently it displays "Total Duration". On my 15" MBP thw window does not span even 3/4 of the screen and there is still 7 inches of free space in the status bare that could easily accommodate file info. I'd also suggest the info be modified. We are dealing with audio files here.
So there should be
Format: AIFF 44100hz/16bit Stereo
Data Size: 41.72MB
Bitrate: 1411kbs
You can't calculate BPM on a DJ mix so it's a pretty pointless placing that here, perhaps that would be better in a Column.

Re: Volume control 0dB (100%) level indication (9 replies, posted in Features)
As also "As an Option" im always in preference of. When i hear clipping i like a visual meter to reinforce my suspicions. Granted most ppl wouldn't need such monitoring but it is useful to tho of us who do audio work. Besides ppl who just use cog to play will most likely hide the app in the background so they;d not see the meters haha. All the same an option would be great to have something integrated at the top of the window in Cog...plenty of room for it.

Same problem here man. I use arrow left/right on the powerbook for previous/next tracks respectively. Sadly Cog won't accept the space bar for play/pause like pro audio apps use. But anyways yeah when im in OmniWeb the key strokes change tracks in Cog when its hidden hahaha funny stuff ;-)

Hi vspader,
I did email yes, I received no reply so i decided to post.
5) As i already stated, the Lucinda Grande system font at size 13 on my so called hi res power book is massive. These fonts take up far too much space everywhere on the system ;-) sadly we took a huge step backwards with LCD displays limited with fixed native resolutions. If my machine has a res of say 1920x1200 the font sizing would not be a problem. I have perfect vision and can read tiny font sizes which provides me far more readable data on this overly lame 1440x960 Powerbook. (if only the new 15" MBP's had a 1920x1200 hi res option like the larger sized 17" MBP-that would make me so happy). So yeah a font sizing option would be great ;-)
Thanks

1) I'd Love Cog to support Volume Devices like iTunes (not iPods). Mounted CD's and Toast CD Audio Disk Images (.sd2f) I have stored on my hard disk many Toast disk images of my CD's which i mount in the Finder. The mounted disk images show up in iTunes.
2) I'd love and EQ like the one provided in iTunes with a PreAmp with a few more frequencies, 80, 90 hz 5,6,10,12khz. In addition well as a simple +/- 10% pitch adjustment (NOT one that retains the original length) same mechanics as an Technics SL1210mk2 turntable.
3) A little speaker icon next to the audio track currently playing like iTunes.
4) Extra column view items , Bit Rate, File size and Kind
5) Ability to change the font type and size in the draw and the main list. I find the systems Lucida Grande size 13 WAY WAY too HUGE especially for the folders in the Draw. BTW do you plan on changing the Draw to a resizable sidebar like iTunes or the Finder sidebar or Path Finder's Sidebar?
If i donate some $$ as a bounty would this motivate the developer to implement them?
I love Cog, the mechanism this app uses makes it THE NO 1 audio player for me. So happy this app has graced this platform (finally good riddance to iTunes).

Re: FLAC playback dropping out (2 replies, posted in General)
Ill keep monitoring this issue. It may very well be the headphone out being bumped, which coincidentally has occurred while playing FLAC. I've just discovered FLAC so Im focusing on using FLAC files an putting them thru their paces. Curiously, I have had the FLAC files behaving similarly on my iPod mini with the RockBox OS, i assumed a connection with the FLAC format it self.

Curious, i notice when i play FLAC files occasionally they drop out for few hundred milliseconds then continue playback. Is this an issue with the FLAC format, or the current FLAC version Codec in Cog?
