Yeah, it's not 100% expected, but I think it makes sense. It wouldn't make much sense to have just a playlist, but we could have it cycle through that too.

I'm talking about making it so there is only one mode, you just hide the playlist parts.

smile Time to pull this topic back on-topic...

I've been thinking about the minicontroller thing, and one of my ideas was that Cog would have the "Show/Hide Toolbar" button that would simply slide away the playlist leaving just the "core stuff". Basically, make the controller a toolbar.

Which leads to another idea. If we actually make the Cog controller bits a toolbar, (which i think would involve making it a single row, (or two distinct rows?)) we could make it "Customizable" with all the fun that entails. Let people go nuts. This would also allow for plugins to add toolbar items that could be added (theoretically, I haven't actually looked into what it takes to make a customizable toolbar).

This would require some UI redesign, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Cog looks bitchin', but I'd like to see Cog conform a bit better. We could move some buttons things down below the playlist (File drawer and info, for example)

It's not always a problem. From what I can tell, t only occurs when you have messed up mime types. On my machines, Safari works fine, until I installed BetterZip. Then it starts adding the .bz2 extension. I'll keep this in mind though. Hopefully either Apple will wise up, or mime-types will stop being broken, otherwise I'll just make it a dmg.bz2 instead of using the compression in dmgs.

The menubar item could be done too. I've got some experience dealing with that thanks to Megaman Effect X.

Cog doesn't have any applescript commands for controlling anything, all you can do is retrieve info about the current song.

Well, the nightly builds are generally stable, though it's not guaranteed. I have my Cog dock icon pointed to my build directory, so if Cog is broken, I can't even listen to music  (And this is actually the reason most things get implemented tongue).

It only took 14 months for 0.06 to be released...so... I'm shooting for sometime after Leopard is released, and sometime before never.

I don't know when that feature will be added. First on the list is cleaning up the code. I need to touch up the playback system and the file drawer a bit. Next it will be cue sheets and multi-track files. After that, who knows. Probably this, since it is one of the most often requested things. Who knows what I'll actually end up doing though, I tend to get distracted depending on what's being discussed here or what sounds fun at the moment.

Not a bad idea. Shouldn't be too difficult either.

Why not use the volume up/down keys on the iBook? smile

You didn't look at the 0.07 list hard enough smile

FYI, iTunes Plus tracks seem to be m4a, at least the ones I have.

Streaming support is extremely limited. Only vorbis and mp3 files have been tested, and they must have the correct file extension. In the future, I'm hoping to add mime-type support so it doesn't need the extension.

Halakari is correct. The file should be Cog-0.06.dmg. There are some mime-type issues with certain archiving programs that cause safari to append a .bz2 to the filename when there shouldn't be one. Rename the file and remove the .bz2 and it should mount fine.

A couple of other things I thought of. XMMS has a queing system, where you could right click a song, and set it as the next to play. Might be handy. Also, watching files and alerting the user if they have moved/been deleted/are unable to play in some way.

Update: Thought of some more. Gapless mp3 headers, and mime-types for streaming.

cue sheets are basically the #1 priority feature for 0.07. People have been requesting it for quite some time.

I'm betting something like this would be easier with the AppleScript support. Interesting idea.

You sure they all have the .mp4 extension? That'd be all Cog looks at to determine if it's grayed out.

How about not copying itunes? hmm

If a file has no tags, the filename will appear in the "Title" column. If you don't want tags to be read at all, you can also disable to TagLib plugin.

This kind of stuff needs a wiki. Editing and quoting specific bits is a pain! The wishlist would make a good wiki page too. Hmm.
