ahhh. i noticed that when cog is open and playing a track folder 11's size shoots up to 20kb. when cog is closed it jumps down to 4. so 11's purpose is somewhat apparent now, i think. for the other one, i guess i will never know. anyway, thanks for all the input :]

thanks for the response sam and thankfully no, cog is not bugging out on me. i wonder though what is the purpose of the cache directory i am missing (07), anyone have a clue? furthermore what purpose does the one i am not missing (11) serve as well? in short, what sort of data do these directories cache?

i have tried to play streams with cog directly (with open url) and indirectly (like downloading a playlist for a stream off archive.org and opening it with cog) in both .pls and .m3u format. it has never worked. the most i ever get is a faint clicking sound and cog kind of locks up. this is not something new, i have always noticed it, but now i am wondering... have i been missing something, is cog supposed to be able to play streams?

support for more lossless formats would be neat. also i just noticed yesterday that cog would not play my mpeg-4 audio files with the .aac extension suffix. support for that would be nice as well.

yes, in the energy saver preferences pane, just uncheck "put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" and the disk spin downs will be much less frequent and bothersome, with that unchecked your disk will only spin down after 3 hours of inactivity. also, increase the amount of time under "put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for", with these two changes, your problem should be solved.

vs, i had to uninstall betterzip as well, but after a day i realized it was too useful for me to get rid of, i had a back up of betterzip 1.4.2 which i reverted to, and that version does not seem to cause the problems 1.5 does, if you want i could send you it.

you said you are unzipping the dmg. is this a zipped dmg? or just a plain dmg? safari has some issues interpreting mime types and occasionally appends extra file-type suffixes. in this case you would change the file name and remove the .zip part, leaving the .dmg there. if you are speaking of a different issue, then i dont have any other ideas.
