Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

I updated the appcast and changed the file to .tar.bz2. Let's see if that fixes anything.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

the safari issue is definitely fixed. also unlike the bastardized tbz.bz2, the tar.bz2 expands correctly using os x's bomarchivehelper and betterzip, because the archive is what it says it is, not what safari (or whatever else) assumes it is. i will let you know whether the updating works soon; either when the next nightly is posted (if you post it in that format) or if my antibiotics and tylenol night-time cough (got strep throat) wear off quickly enough for me to concentrate and see if updating is successful.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

I made a couple of more changes, and built a new nightly: r509.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

still fails. maybe you can put it up as a tar.bz2?

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

Sparkle doesn't support the .tar.bz2 extension, only tbz.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

ah ha! but why is no one else experiencing this? do you know of any possible reasons other than the ones that i mentioned... which were not that related?

i opened up console while i attempted to update cog, here is the output;

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

Hmm. Betterzip seems to have done something. Something bad. Well, at least it's broke on my machine now too!

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

Mine updated successfully once again. o_O

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

ohhh shiste. how would you or i even go about alerting the guy(s) over at macitbetter? what would one say?

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

Nevermind! I have succeeded!
I'm in a bit of a hurry, I'll post an explanation when I get back.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

i have had to do the launch services refresh a few times, it is not pleasant because you have to re-register a bunch of your apps. not fun. i will wait it out a bit and just manually update cog for now.

p.s. but please, please do explain when you get back.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

Is it still broken for you?

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

yes, yes it is. how did you fix the issue?

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

If it's still not working for you, then I didn't fix it. hmm

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

no no no wait...

it is working!
huzzah. um, what was the problem... how did you fix it?

(p.s. kudos :])

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

Hah. Good. I'll mark it as resolved (Maybe I should make a Resolved Bugs forum.)

Safari and the NSURLDownload class both do some crazy things with mime-types. If the mime-type is known by the system, and the file does not have the extension the system says it does, it adds it to the suggested filename. BetterZip associates with the Bzip mime-type and associates it with bz2 and a few other extensions, but not tbz. I fixed it by changing the mime-type to a made-up one (x-tarbzip2), so OS X just leaves the extension as it is. I'm thinking of changing it to x-cogupdate just so theres no chance of future conflicts.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

that is so strange as i always make sure to keep bomarchivehelper associated with all the file types it can open... bzip is of course amongst them. but because of betterzip and the NSURLDownload class the proper associations were ignored? i mean is it a problem introduced by betterzip or just something inherent in safari and the aforementioned class? (basically, should i send a bug report to the betterzip folks and if so, what should i say?)

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

BetterZip altered the way the tbz association is defined, I think.

Re: Cog fails to update to the latest nightly

i am just going to copy and paste most of the stuff from this thread and use it to make a bug report then. i knew something wasn't right when i upgraded to betterzip 1.5. thanks for being a hefty good dev by the way.
