Topic: Metadata caching?

Is it possible to make Cog cache the metadata (tags) of the files currently in playlist, between sessions?
I have a large(ish) music collection, around 10 000 items, and reloading the metadata every time (over ethernet)
takes some time and is sort of annoying.

Can this be done in Cog 0.07 r635, or in some unstable build? Or would this be a feature request?

Re: Metadata caching?

This is very much a feature request smile I'll move the post.

Ahoy smile

I come from the GNU/Linux world, and i'm happy to see projects like Cog alive and well-being on OS X platform.
Believe it or not today is my fifth day ever i'm on a Mac, but i'm so hooked smile

Sorry for this off-topic post, but i just had to say your work is greatly appreciated!

Re: Metadata caching?

Man, as much as I love Cog, I've been waiting for this as all of my music is on an external disk which I connect my laptop to.
Because I have 20000+ songs, I have to wait half an hour before I can search all my music... really annoying. Especially because I'm a last.fm user and it won't scrobble without the info loaded...

By the way, isn't the tag info saved in a M3U playlist? Isn't there a way to save/load that?

Re: Metadata caching?

There is an extension that winamp uses called extinf, but it doesn't really suit Cog. For one, it just stores length and "Artist - Title". Cog needs more info than that. I suppose it could load that info and have it be replaced once the real info is read... Either way, this is a post-0.08 feature.

Re: Metadata caching?

Hi,
I register to this forum to ask the same feature but i found this post smile
It really would be great, it's quite boring to reload all data at every startup especially when using massive usb storage device.
