Re: Reanimating Cog

Re: Reanimating Cog

Appears so, though this wasn't my intent - i only have access to Lion for testing.
Will try to fix this, in a day or two.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Fixed, mamburu.net/cog/cog-r1970.tbz should work on 10.5 and 10.6

Re: Reanimating Cog

Can't connect to mamburu.net !

Re: Reanimating Cog

Please try now, my hosting provider had some planned works yesterday.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Works!

Since I dont have Lion im not able to test the fullscreen feature.

Anyway, whats the plan about this? Can we hope for more developments for Cog?

It's the only player out there worthy to mention for simple play of music.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Remaining time doesn't seem to work.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Very glad to hear that you're continuing Cog's development!

In the past, my contributions were bug reporting, feature suggestions and some localization.

I would have gladly tried to start contributing to the project's development coding-wise but...
1) all I have, even today, is an old Mac with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard =\
and
2) more importantly, I don't have much free time due to work and other things. Given that I do not know Objective-C and Cocoa, free time is something that I would especially need (to learn Obj-C, Cocoa, the existing codebase) if I were to do anything on the coding side. =\ =\

(Maybe that'll change someday, who knows...)

Anyway, hope to hear from you soon!

Re: Reanimating Cog

+1 for the changelog!

And keep it going dpromsky - like it so far smile

Re: Reanimating Cog

Re: Reanimating Cog

The PowerPC build of r1985 works. smile

BTW, out of curiosity, on Lion, how do you switch to Mini Mode?

You know, seeing as the "pellet" button on the top right of the window (which usually is for hiding/showing the toolbar) has been replaced with the Full Screen button.

(Oh yeah, also, nice choice of VG music for the screenshot on your Cog page. XD )

Re: Reanimating Cog

oh wow, updates! great news, thanks, will give it a go! i'm on 32bit snow leopard on a creaky old macbook.
edit: it certainly runs, seems to work and growl is still working, so far so good! have switched it to the nightly feed, looking forward to seeing what happens!

Re: Reanimating Cog

I'm really excited to see someone working on this beautiful project again! Homage to dpromsky!!

I use Cog for years now. I see a lot of potential to make it even better than it is. I'd love to contribute to the project.

I just downloaded this new version. All looks ok to me (Intel, OS X 10.7.3). I will post bug reports and feature requests later on.

About Mini Mode on Lion:
The "pellet" was removed in Lion, system-wide, and the function is now in the toolbar's contextual menu ("Hide Toolbar").

Cheers!

Re: Reanimating Cog

Great work dpromsky.
Also very nice to see you are a prog fan. Gotta mean you do this out of a deep love for music too.
And to see Ozric Tentacles in the list... big_smile

Small feature/GUI request:
Would be nice to be able to increase the font size and/or line spacing of the Library and Play list.
All pretty squashed at the moment, especially the Library. A little more whitespace would help in visual browsing.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Hi nonumber.
Yup, Cog scratches my own itch. smile

As for font size, it is possible to change it, from top menu: View -> Increase Font Size (hotkey cmd + '+') / Decrease Font Size (hotkey cmd + '-'). Does that help? Or did i misunderstand the request?

Re: Reanimating Cog

dpromsky, please get in touch with spader and see if he'll allow you to administer the website and all of that stuff. massive applause for you and your efforts!

Re: Reanimating Cog

Re: Reanimating Cog

dpromsky, whatever works best for you. as long as people know that cog is undergoing development and improvement again, it's all the same to me. btw, my snow leopard box has been down for a while now and i've been using my 2006 macbook pro as a main machine, which runs tiger. so, out of curiosity, have you or anyone else done any recent work on the 0.07 branch of cog?

p.s. i did the hebrew localization for cog 0.07 so whenever cog 0.08 gets closer to a stable release, let me know if you need any extra strings translated.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Sorry for taking too long to respond - was busy as hell.
Regarding running on tiger - i've had one (successful) attempt at producing a build that will work on 10.5 ppc (earlier in this thread), but i haven't since had a time to make it a repeatable process (there's some work needed as cog currently uses some features only present on 10.6 and there isn't ppc support in latest SDKs from Apple). I plan to do it, anyway, if there's still need for this when i'll be able to get to it.

As for hebrew localization - thanks for offering to help. Once 0.08 is more or less free of major bugs i'll certainly need it.

Re: Reanimating Cog

Hallo, I know barely nothing about coding (a little html, done some very newbish IRC-scripting and so forth) but I am using your version of Cog at the moment on OSX 10.8.1 running on a MacBook Pro mid 2010. So if I bounce into any issues I'll let you know. Before I used the latest nightbuild that was available through the "official" version and it started crashing randomly at the end of songs – perhaps after I upgraded my OS, but I really can not tell.

Is there anything especially testing-wise I should be thinking of/doing etc.? I am willing to help with whatever as Cog is the only real option for me out there.
