Topic: "pause after current track" command

hi hi
i'd like to be able to tell cog to pause when it reaches the end of the track it's currently playing. this definitely wouldn't need an icon, just a menu command with shortcut key would be fine. when i'm listening to an album, and surfing the web or whatever, i'll come across something that i want to hear (a video or sound clip or whatever), so i want to pause cog while i listen to it.... but i'd often rather pause between tracks, and listen to whatever the other thing is then, than interrupt a track (weird and anal? maybe smile ). it'd be nice to be able to go straight to cog and ask it to pause at the end of the track, rather than trying to pay enough attention and remember myself to switch back and pause it at the right moment.
i expect other occasions might occasionally occur when this could be handy...
um you get the idea? what do you reckon? smile

edit: oh, if you particularly wanted to avoid adding another command to the control menu, you could even make it a command+option+P type thing where the menu option changes when you're holding the option key. or tbh i'd be happy with a keyboard shortcut even if there were no menu item.

Re: "pause after current track" command

also in this direction good features are "Fade out and stop", "Fade out and next track" (of course, can be emulated by messing with volume every time, but much better to have computer to do it)

Re: "pause after current track" command

Back to the OP's "pause," why not just hit Command-P? You're at the keyboard anyway about to play/watch something else.

any thoughts from our illustrious leader? big_smile

Re: "pause after current track" command

I think this would best fit in the repeat group. Maybe a repeat-all, repeat-1, play-1, play-all type of thing. I don't know when I would get around to implement something like this though. Likely when I get around to adding repeat-1 support.

Re: "pause after current track" command

hm i'd still request this to be implemented as a one-shot command rather than a repeat-type mode, otherwise i'd have to go back and disable that mode when i resumed playback. would it help if i said please? big_smile i wouldn't expect it to be at all high priority, but it would be great if it gets in there eventually.

Re: "pause after current track" command

If I may suggest, how about using:

Command Shift Period or Command Option Period

...since Command Period is now Stop (certainly a related function).

In Mac OS apps, keyboard shortcuts that use Control are very rare and unusual (except those Emacs keyboard shortcuts).

Re: "pause after current track" command

great news, thanks big_smile - i might have to wait to try it out tho, the nightlies are leopard-only right? actually... i'm not much of a coder, but i might be able to stretch to hacking it back into the 0.07 branch if i can find the energy, and if the relevant infrastructure hasn't changed too much. hmmmm.

regarding the shortcut - command-option-period is fine with me. i can't help but ask if it could maybe be listed as a (optional) global hotkey in the preferences, tho that's not essential.

cheers cool
