That would be simpler, but it seems less useful.

This is tricky because it's those applications that ask iTunes specifically for that information. I'm guessing they use Applescript, but who knows. Maybe a plugin could be written for Adium, but I'm not that familiar with it's innards.
Otherwise, Cog would have to impersonate iTunes to do that, and that violates a lot of rules and would likely cause many problems, if it is even possible.

Maybe we just need to get Cog popular enough so these applications add support for it tongue

Looks like it comes back around to Applescript! Having some applescript hooks sure would open up a lot of possibilities wink
