Topic: The Audion Story

Great player, great skins.

Agreed, back in my OS 8.6/9 days I always thought this was an unusually good-sounding player.  I don't know what special magic they worked with their decoder, but something about the stereo image through Audion seemed particularly vivid.  I loved their plugins, too.

No one knows what they did to their code.
It sounded amazing. iTunes sounds cold and fizzy in comparison.
Now it's unbearably buggy in Leopard. Sad, sad.
I wish someone would reverse-engineer their code so they can find out what they did to the sound.

Re: The Audion Story

Sounds like an obituary, but I'm running a Mac PowerBook with OS X 4.11, and somehow I'm able to keep a functional Audion 3.02 on the dock.  I keep it primarily for editing MP3 files rather than as a player.  Its waveform editing is simple to use if I want to whack out a quick extract from of a full tune.

Still sounds great, and gives me a vast array of MP3 encoding options/bit rates.  Has it stopped being usable on other platforms?
