Topic: Playback problems

Downloaded Cog today and really like it so far. However, I have certain playback problems - when one track is playing, if I click on another, it just plays the next track to the one that was playing. Also, when I click on a new track, every song on that album comes up on my screen. Any idea what I might do to resolve these difficulties please?

Re: Playback problems

It plays them both at the same time? What version of Cog are you using? What version of OS X? Any special audio devices?

Re: Playback problems

OSX 10.4.10 - Cog Version 0.06 (r516) - no special audio devices. Is there a baisc guide to how to use Cog? I can't even add an artist's name to a track? A lot of the forum seems v advanced for an old guy like me who plays his guitar, writes songs, records on to Garage Band, uses an iPod etc. thanks for your interest and help.

Re: Playback problems

You simply add files to the playlist (By dragging them in from the Finder, for example), and click the play button to begin playback. If you want to go to the next song, you hit the next button. If you want to play a specific song from the playlist, you can double click on it.

I'm not entirely sure of what's going wrong though. If you want to go into more detail, I may be able to help more.

Re: Playback problems

I'm really puzzled too. Here's what is happening. When I first open Cog and click on a song to play it, it plays OK. I can do this a few times, then it goes weird. So, right now, when I stopped Cog, then clicked on song number 37, every song on that album showed up on my screen, individually, but the track that played was song number 54, which isn't on the album.

Let's see what happens when I shut down and reopen. I clicked on song number 6, that one song popped up on my desktop briefly and it started playing. I then clicked on song 16, and similarly, it played and it showed up momentarily on my desktop.

Clicked on number 38, it worked. Track 149, again OK. NUmber 93 OK, then I clicked on number 44 and track 54 plays and all the songs on that album comes up.

Hang on! It's always on the same album, so I'll delete it and try again.

But, for example, how can one add the name of an artist to a track? In iTunes, one clicks on the space under Artist, and can type the name in, in Cog, nothing happens when one clicks on the space. Is there an idiot's guie to Cog anywhere.

Many thanks for your trouble. Alan

Re: Playback problems

yes, I think it's a Growl notification - I've never found I use Growl, I wonder if I should uninstall it?

Thanks, anyway, despite these problems it's a really nice App

Alan

Re: Playback problems

Ah Ok.That makes sense!
If you don't want to uninstall it, you can tell Growl to disable the notifications from Cog. I don't have my mac in front of me, so I can't tell you how smile (If anyone else out there wants to walk through it, feel free, I won't be able to until tonight).

Re: Playback problems

Couldn't see it under Growl system prefs, but I just reduced the number of seconds it appears for, so please don't worry about coming back to me on this, I am sure others have far more pressing issues.
Again, many thanks,

Re: Playback problems

The problem now appears differently. Whatever song I select, at the top of the Cog screen, the final song on the playlist is shown and even when I click on a different song, whenever I click play, it;s the song in the dialog box that gets played and not the one I am trying to play.

I've opened and closed the App several times, but it's still the same problem

Re: Playback problems

I see the problem, when I deleted what I thought was the offending album, for some reason, every file got deleted, but the title remained. So I had to delete everything, and gradually reload, and that is working. I haven't lost anything because all my stuff is backed up using Retrospect.
