Topic: Global Volume hotkeys?

Just found out about Cog through TUAW, and I love it!  The developers have done a great job at keeping CPU usage down.  It definitely performs better than iTunes on my iBook G4, which is great for me, because I tend to push my processor to the limit.

I would like to submit a feature request, though.  I am really picky about volume, and I prefer to control music volume directly through the application rather than simply changing the system volume.  I think it would be great to have hotkeys for changing the volume.  I have CoverSutra for iTunes, which has hotkeys for volume, and I use them all the time.  Any chance of getting something similar in Cog?

Re: Global Volume hotkeys?

Why not use the volume up/down keys on the iBook? smile

Re: Global Volume hotkeys?

Because I find that if, for instance, I'm listening with headphones, I like the system volume (i.e. the volume controlled through the volume up/down keys on the iBook) to be at a higher volume than my music.  When I'm listening through the iBook speakers (which are absolutely awful, but I'm not really in a position to get external speakers right now), I usually like the music volume all the way up, but sometimes it's too loud and I want to turn it down.  But I prefer my system volume to be all the way up, so that I can hear things like new mail notifications, etc, easily.  That's why I think it's nice to have a convenient separate control for the music volume.

Re: Global Volume hotkeys?

In the meantime, you can always just Cmd-Tab to Cog and then use Cmd-Up/Down to control the volume from there.

Re: Global Volume hotkeys?

Yeah, that works.  I was thinking of making a Quicksilver trigger for Cog, so that I can switch to it quickly to do that (I'm big on using the mouse as little as possible).  Any chance anyone knows how I could use AppleScript or something to set up volume hotkeys for Cog through Quicksilver?

Re: Global Volume hotkeys?

Cog doesn't have any applescript commands for controlling anything, all you can do is retrieve info about the current song.
