Topic: Folder naming - leading periods cause folder not to display

System version:    Mac OS X 10.4.10
Hardware:    PB G4 17" Al 1.67MHz, 2GB/100GB (30GB Free)
Lead up to problem:    New folder added to library or renamed.
Summary of problem:    Folders which begin with a period are not shown in the file drawer.
Errors reported/alerts/logs:    None
Sequence to reproduce:    Add or change the name of a folder to have a leading period.

Manifestation of problem:
Album titles like "...But Seriously" do not appear in the file drawer.

This is not a bug, it is intentional. Files/directories beginning with . under unix are considered hidden.

The folders do display in the Tiger Finder but I'll rename any that have leading periods.

The folder names were created by Max.

Obviously, 3 periods/dots won't work either.

True enough. I wasn't completely awake when I wrote that and was assuming that joel meant putting the ellipsis inside a pair of parenthesis.

Joel, your best bet would be to use something like a ~ or even a comma instead of periods. Periods make for bad juju on anything UNIX-y.

Just curious, but why do you want a . in the beginning? Quite annoying if it is from an album title or similar
