Shift right is fast forward, but you can't set how long it skips

Guess I have cranked up my Cog use. Tidbits of minor annoyances pop up all the time.

When deleting from the playlist using backspace it would be great if Cog automatically chose/highlighted/blue-lined the next track. Then it would be easier to remove from playlist on a track by track basis.

When you add tracks to the playlist to iTunes you get a plus signaling you can drop it here. It would be polished if Cog did this as well.

Also if it could do it on hovering the dock icon... iTunes don't though, so maybe it is impossible

Hey

When my mac sleeps and wakes up, Cog resumes as soon as the computer wakes up.

I don't think that is a desirable behavior.

1. I listen to music and sleeps the computer. Wakes it up on the train... Everybody hates me (never really happened, but might).

2. I set my computer to fall asleep while I am listening to an audiobook in Cog. Also I set my alarmclock program to wake me up. Then I get both music and audiobook, while I wake up. (happened).

I think there ought to be either a preference or changed standard behavior.

Any thoughts?

Your choice, but a fade to pause/fade to restart function seems useless.

I think that a pref. to fade in and out of songs everytime could serve a purpose, as it would prevent the sharp change, when skipping in the middle of a track. I wouldn't use it though.

When I add a song to the queue, but subsequently remove some of the queued tracks from the playlist, the tracks stay in the queue.

I don't think I will use the queue regularly, but is that the desired behavior?

Should the filelist show up in the window menu?
- And why not if not?

Should the filelist close, when Cog is closed (not quit). It seems inconvenient that you have to close two windows.

The Hide Playlist menu item is greyed out even when the playlist is visible on r878.

And just to make sure I am not missing something. The hide playlist menu item should correspond to the upper right toolbar button (usually hide tool bar, in Cog miniplayer button), right?

Hey

What is the use for the fade in/fade out button?.

Is it a fancy pause button that fades. Then why do we need it?

Shouldn't it be a setting, so skipping to the next song won't upset partygoers.

Personalization is probably still some way out in the future. So I guess we will end up with one set of icons. (that's all right vspader, do your thing in your own pace!)

I don't know when 0.08 is expected to be released, and maybe the icons can change up till that day.

But sooner or later vspader have to make a decision... Or leave it up the ones that actually submit icons, instead of just throwing ideas around.

As I see it, we have covered most sides of a discussion, that is besically founded in taste. and you know: 'de gusitbus non est disputandum'.

Oops... I just spotted this one. I guess all of the above is moot

I can't remember if I wrote anything about this.

Also it might be obsolete due to other plans for the info drawer.

But here goes:

Issues:
Launching the info drawer looks really weird in miniplayer mode.

If you make the cog-window really narrow the info drawer acts in a weird way.

If you try to resize the info drawer in minimode it disappear and won't come back, not even if you go back to normal mode. It requires a restart.

And a weird one: If you choose miniplayer, and make the info drawer disappear. And go back to normal mode. Then you can resize the playlist half way through the toolbar.

That is it.

Btw. did you notice that if you put cog in miniplayer mode and make it as narrow as possible, you get a sweet little thing with just the navigation buttons and the volume button (which I still dislike)

Hey OKboy

Good to see someone is throwing ideas around.

First I think the regular buttons, should remain pretty much the way they are. No reason to confuse users by not making them different than standard. Skins that are cartoonish can come, when Cog becomes skinnable,

I like the lightning, they are random, don't hit the same place twice (so the legend goes, at least), might be good. My main concern is that people won't recognize it as a random button, but as described previously, there really isn't a universal sign for random.

The repeat ones seem alright... Hard to tell from he sketch. It would be great to see them.

Thanks for giving it a shot.

I'll pitch in with a few comments.

First my opinion on the current ones. I don't think the icons are very stylish or intuitive.

The 'bars icon' for random don't tell me anything. What do the bars represent? I immediately think statistics when I see it.

The repeat icons are not too pretty, The '1' is okay, but 'AL' does it mean album or couldn't you fit in ALL, finally the 'repeat all' is pretty standard issue.

I like the info button, but the file tree button looks like a 'new mail' button.

So looking ahead, what do I think we should go for?

Shuffle:
I never liked iTunes' way of doing it. The two crossed paths doesn't mean anything. I mean there are only one track playing at the time.

But I can't think of a better solution. And after a quick search on google images, it seems that iTunes has set a standard. So in my opinion we should go with a remake of theirs.

@OKboy: yours look good, though vspader is right about them being a bit off center. Except 'off', i don't get the small arrows to each side. And it looks a bit too much like random off.

Or try to look at the dice in 'Play'

Repeat:
Having multiple possible settings for one button eliminates the possibility for on/off - a light up/pressed down solution. That makes it a bit difficult. I think the icon should communicate what it does in any position.

@OKboy yours are pretty good, but they would be more clear if there were more room for the little 'infinity'-symbol, cd-symbol and 1-digit.

File Tree:
Go crazy, let us get a green tree icon. It's good for the environment... almost kidding.

Concluding, I don't think everyone will be happy about the icons. So it will be up to vspader to set the direction. It would be great if more people could paint a few more sets.

Also I would love the icon for random, that I didn't think of, but makes perfect sense afterwards.

Agree

Yep, repeatable. Now, that is a weird bug.

And once again Remain amazes with uncanny bug hunting skills. Do you work with something like this normally?

Hey

you are probably right. I couldn't repeat with todays nightly.

Feel free to delete the post.

Ok, maybe this is just my machine acting up.

1. I opened cog

2. Enjoyed the X's for files in the playlist, that was deleted (very useful)

3. I thought hey, don't you tell me I deleted the files, and played one anyways

4. Cog crashes

5. Relaunch

6. Update to latest nightly

7 Retry playing deleted file... Nothing happens - as expected.

So I figure the problem i playing something deleted, when (auto)searching for updates messed things up.

Hail me for finding the bug least probably to really annoy anyone in the long run (if it is a bug, and not just computers doing their thing).

Ps. btw. Growl still goes trigger happy, when playing erroneous (fancy word, eh) tracks.
