Re: File Panel alternative (21 replies, posted in Archives)
The file inspector has an advantage: it does not changes the size of the main window, so the column widths and the info visible are always the same. Another advantage: it disappear when Cog is in background, thus leaving only the main window, with the data one may want to read also with Cog in background (i.e.: next track name).
I think the info drawer should not become a pane, because Panes have some sizes constrained. An inspector would be better: it disappears when not on top, can have a completely free size, ...

Technically, it's not a "pane", it's a window. Panes are those with the list of pages in Preview, or the list of mailboxes in Mail.

Because Mac OS X is also about integration. Those icons are everything except integrated in the Aqua UI.

The icon in 0.08 is also always the same. How to find out its state?

Additional note: when I seek multiple times within the same same file in a short period of time (1 second between seeks), I get a "recoverable error" in the Console.

Re: 0.08: Audio stuttering during skipping song (13 replies, posted in Bugs)
It never happens for seeks within the same song (as far as I remember), it happens only while skipping to the next, previous or any other song (I tried only mp3s).
I found that it happens very often (almost always) if done within the first seconds since cog started to play (=skip within the song, skip to another song). With examples:
-skip to next -> few seconds played -> skip to next => stuttering
-skip to within the song -> few seconds played -> skip to next => stuttering
-play the same song as before, but 20 seconds -> skip to next -> no stuttering
If you tell me which tests you would like me to do, I will make them this evening.
Since Cog, as discussed in other threads, is gapless and feeds the audio device with a continuous stream, without interruptions (or so I understood), could the problem arise only with aggregate devices? my output device is made of soundflower (input) and the real iMac audio card (output). Or maybe it depends on cog+soundflower? (as far as it concerns Cog, my aggregate audio device is made only of soundflower 2ch, the other part of the aggregate device is used only by AU Lab).

About 20% (out of 200% maximum), on an iMac Core 2 Duo 2,4 GHz.

I noticed that it doesn't happen every time, the same track may cause it or not, depending on the number of seconds played. Should I send two example tracks for testing? at least to exclude Cogx as source of the problem?

I mean, the separate window is not a problem, SINCE it disappears. Moreover, if you don't like it, just don't use it and use the Finder (the question may be: please add a menu item to add File/folders to the playlist).
I find the separate window MUCH better than a sliding pane or the old drawer (bleah...).

Re: 0.08: Audio stuttering during skipping song (13 replies, posted in Bugs)
It probably depends in LAconvolver, since disabling it in AU Lab makes the problem disappear. Cog simply exposed the bug.

0.08 r879, audio output device: Aggregate audio device, made of Soundflower 2ch and of the builtin audio. The sound comes out of Cog, goes into Soundflower, it is taken by AU Lab from Apple, processed, and then outputted to the builtin audio.
Between the end of a song and the next one everything ok, also when jumping to a specific position of the track, but when I skip to the next song I hear the audio stuttering for a couple of seconds.
Is it related to the gapless playback?
I don't remember experiencing this problem with 0.07 under either Tiger or Leopard.

About the Search field: I think it should be made automatically resizable, or at least bigger (1.5x) than it is now.

About the "skip to next" and "skip to previous" buttons: they appear not well defined, the black arrows appear as blurred. Could someone make them more focused and with less (or lighter) antialias?
The same for the order of reproduction: I would prefer some real grey between the bars, not some grey caused by antialias. On other words, the icon should be perfectly transparent between the bars, in order to show the background grey. Make them thinner if needed, but I don't find them pleasant at all as they are now.

And I don't see why my global system output sample rate should be changed by an audio player. The sample conversion in Mac OS X is not bad at all (or not too much), so it is better to leave that setting untouched. Users worried about that almost imperceptible quality loss should set the value manually.

The current shortcut is Command+Return (the big one, not the one in the keypad).
Why not Command+R, that is the standard of the Finder to show the original file for Aliases? you are, technically, showing the original file of an alias.

Re: Cog changes audio device without asking (4 replies, posted in Bugs)
The problem is that when it happens, i get the music about 10 dB louder... :-(
However, I don't know how you could fix it, if there is a problem with the device, switching back to the default is the correct way of working.

Re: Cog changes audio device without asking (4 replies, posted in Bugs)
I noticed it happened while launching Mail, iChat, Adium, Skype and Safari just after the boot process completed, but I was unable to reproduce it by launching the application in a controlled way, one by one.
I forgot to write that the device selected in Cog was NOT the standard output, it was a composite device I created with "Audio MIDI Setup". The device is made of Soundflower2ch and the Standard audio output, joined together.
I also forgot to write that the bug makes Cog switch back to the standard output as defined in the system preferences, even if the cog preferences still show my device as output device.

Sometimes I notice that the audio device usd by cog has changed, even if the prefernces still show the correct one. I simply open the drop down menu and select again the current device and it works.
At the time being I don't know exactly what triggers the problem.
Leopard, Cog 0.07.
