Amarok is great. The library and iPod support are the two features that I'm most attracted to; iTunes wanting to erase iPods that haven't been sync'd to its library is ridiculous and reason enough to install Amarok.

I hope they re-think the 2.0 user interface, though. It's pretty fugly looking compared to the current version.

That'd work

Cog "lacks" the features to compete with the likes of Foobar, Amarok, and iTunes. However the simplicity and minimalistic approach is what I think most Cog users appreciate. I've used all three of those, and honestly, the custom playlists and library features are the only ones I ever used, and not even to their full potential. Since I keep my collection tightly organized on the filesystem, not having a library is not so much of an issue, nor is custom playlists since they can be built with simple scripts, offering far more in terms of flexebility then a set of static features seen in those players.

Prompt when attempting to add tracks already in the playlist to help avoid duplicates. Personally I'd go with strictly prohibiting it, but some may want to add duplicates for some reason. Could be an option; "Always/Never Allow Duplicates"

"Sidebar" works, since windows have 4 sides.

A detachable sidebar/sidebar item(s), like how Adium contact groups are, would be cool. They have handles so you can drag them out of the main contact list.

Excellent!

A Last.fm pane would be neat. I think a playlist panel (for multiple playlist support) would be nice too. Maybe move the File Info drawer to it also? Lots of options for side panels.

Thanks for adding this.
