Hmm, they shouldn't be greyed out, but if they were purchased then Cog cannot play them.

Could you email me a crash log?

Odd. Cog doesn't write to files, it only opens them for reading, so I doubt Cog is to blame.

Update: I think some bittorrent clients initialize files like that, if that's a possibility.

Thanks for the report. I'll look into it. Any chance it only happens with Flac files?

Interesting. Maybe try using "xxd filename.flac", that'll display the contents in hex-form.

FYI I'll be going through the wishlist sometime this weekend and give comments (and add a few things I've been thinking of). Then we'll get things sorted into 0.07 features, post-0.07 features, and not-gonna-happen features.

Thanks to you, it seems. Awesome! big_smile

Ok, I submitted it to apple downloads, thanks for the suggestion. MacUpdate is just taking its time, I suppose.

Update: I noticed that it was put on macupdate sometime earlier today. I'm still waiting on apple's download page.

Mp4's should work fine, as long as they aren't DRMed. There is a glitch in the format of some iTunes Plus files (at least the ones I bought), but others should be ok.

I got another report of this. It looked like a TagLib bug when you have a FLAC file that either a) it can't open or b) doesn't have tags. I guess if you don't have a flac file, that's out of the question, though it is crashing in the exact same spot.

If you could find a specific file that causes the problem, it would be a lot of help!

There is an item in the wishlist for that (or at least there should be). Symlinks should work though (If you know the command prompt). This is definitely something that will be on the TODO for 0.07, which I'll be drawing up after some discussion.

I notify them. I notified MacUpdate last night. I'll have to do it again if it's not up.

I'll look into the Apple downloads thing, thanks.

I don't know, but I bought a couple of David Bowie albums and couldn't play them, even though they were iTunes plus. CoreAudio was bailing out and wouldn't open them.
I had a hunch it had to do with some messed up atoms after looking at them a bit, so I ran it through the Audio::M4P::QuickTime perl module, and had it clean the personal data atoms, and voila, it worked. I haven't determined the exact reason they were failing yet, though.

Well, it's been 14 months since the last Cog release. I'd say it's time for another.

Everybody that participated in the discussions here (and at ye olde forums) should give themselves a well-deserved pat on the back.

There are a few people who deserve a bit of extra patting:
Shaun Martin for the hot and sexy new UI, icons, hosting the nightlies until I got my act together.
Jason Tan for being a bug reporter extraordinaire!
Aaron Marlin for redesigning the menus (which I then screwed up again smile), and coming up with design ideas!

Heinz-Peter Fohrmann, Tobias Axelsson, Jason Tan, Ari Kronen, Spyros Smparounis  for their translation and localization work!

Also much thanks to Aaron VonderHaar, Chris Henderson, Alexander Rauchfuss, and anyone else that contributed code!

Finally, a big thanks to Stephen Booth for hosting the forums for a bit, and creating Max, Tag, and Play (and licensing them under the GPL so I can steal the bits I want).

Now, onward! To 0.07!

Maybe I'll sneak it into the nightlies one of these days (when I have much much more free time smile)

Oh yes, that is fun smile. I use Music Video mode, so when that happens with me, it goes on for quite some time (It waits for the one to go away before the other even shows up). I'll definitely be fixing this for 0.07.

This is due to a bug in CoreAudio's AudioFile methods. It can't read them. One interesting thing I've noticed is that after stripping certain "atoms" (which also contain personal information) from the files, then AudioFile (and thus Cog), can read them with no problem. Hopefully Apple will get this fixed soon.

I think it'd be especially nice if it loaded up the files you specified into the playlist, but instead played some annoying loop over and over instead of the actual audio. Maybe the time remaining/current artist/song could occasionally change to inane messages too.

Ah, OK. I'll play with that tonight. Finder doesn't seem to change the folder names, though.
