This is not a bug, it is intentional. Files/directories beginning with . under unix are considered hidden.

Are you referring to the the files being displayed in the file tree panel?

You can create a directory with an alias to both locations, or you can (if you're familiar with the terminal) use symlinks. There's no way to make a union of the two.

Edit: To have files from both locations in the playlsit, you can go to File->Add File and navigate to the desired filles you want to add.

Try right clicking on the playlist header and selecting the "Status" column.

I'm with Zitz on this one (well, except for him banning himself neutral and maybe #4,5).

I think we should just drop the modifiers.  It sounds like they cannot be done without side effects, so we should do away with them. I think Finder/OSX "owns" those modifiers at that stage, and we're expected to keep our grubby hands off them.

That's not a bad idea at all. I like it, and I'll add it to trac.

lol Oh man, now you see why I've been reluctant to add these options. Holy crap this is ridiculous. I say people need to just press play when they want to play a song smile

In seriousness, I haven't had enough time to think about it. What do other audio players do both on and off OS X? They usually provide some insight on how to handle these things.

Hrm, I haven't seen this crash before. If it happens again, please send the full crash log to vspader (at) users (dot) sourceforge (dot) net.

Nope, with the dock icon all you get is a openFiles call that has a list of filenames. The modifier is for the special case though, it just toggles whatever your preference is set to, so I don't see it being that big of a hassle.

I see now. Cog is only gapless when changing streams automatically. When you are changing tracks manually, that is not gapless, but it still shouldn't stutter. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

For the mp3 length, Cog will read at most 1 frame of an mp3. For other formats, it depends on the individual decoder.
For metadata, Cog simply hands the filename off to the TagLib library. It does whatever it does to fetch the metadata.
I can put together a debug build to help diagnose what's being slow in this case, but it'll be a bit until I have time to do it.

I'll add this to trac and try out a similar setup.

Does it only occur for certain file types? You say it depends on the number of seconds played? Does that mean it happens when you seek at the end of the song, but not at the beginning?

I think adding an Open With menu item seems like abuse, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Believe it or not, some people wouldn't want an extra application in their open menu, and making that type of thing configurable would be a nightmare.

Modifier keys are a good idea, and I plan to add support for that.

Are you sure that the network filesystem data wasn't cached when you ran foobar? That's a pretty large difference and Cog isn't really doing anything special there.

How much CPU is in use (from Cog & AULab and all that)? I have noticed a few stuttering issues under high load that need to be taken care of.

Could you upload or send me copies of these files? cogosx (at) v spader (dot) com

Are you turning up the volume using Cog? The volume bar does go up past 100%. If you leave it alone, it defaults to 100% at startup. There's also a bit of a sticky point at the 100% marker.

Also, Cog does not currently support replaygain.

It'd be very helpful if you could pin down exactly what actions are causing the leak. It may be difficult, though. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

I'm very much an album listener, and I think your shuffle album idea is great. But that doesn't necessarily require multiple playlists.
In the past, I considered both the VLC approach as well as having playlists accessed through tabs. It's been a while though, so I don't quite remember why I decided not to go in that direction. It's likely that there was no pressing need and I forgot about it lol.

You guys solved this one pretty quick! Go team!

I think I see what happened. Updating to the 0.07 unstable should have fixed things. The additional status column in 0.08 made the check for missing columns fail.

Sorry, but 0.08 is a development build. You should expect debugging messages and lots of them.

There is an extension that winamp uses called extinf, but it doesn't really suit Cog. For one, it just stores length and "Artist - Title". Cog needs more info than that. I suppose it could load that info and have it be replaced once the real info is read... Either way, this is a post-0.08 feature.

Sadly, the more popular Cog gets, the more this is going to be an issue. I've noticed a bit of an increase lately. For now, I'll try changing up a couple things on the registration page to see if that slows things down.

Also, Zitz: if you'd like to become a moderator to help keep it under wraps, I'd be glad to make it so.
