For this thread also.

I agree the current solution isn't perfect.

Dare I say, the horizontal scroll bar free solution is pretty, but impractical. At first I really liked it, but every time I need to see a really long title and increase the width of the title it messes up the other columns.

Maybe fixing the column width for some of them will do the trick.

I agree on a) it would be great if the rows was some other colour.

I have no problem on b). Actually I would hate it if it started moving.

I agree that it isn't perfect.

While it is nice to avoid the horizontal scroller, it is far less easy to predict, what happens, when the size is changed/width of the columns.

I don't really see an easy way to do it, without the horisontal scroll bar. But I'll just throw in a few ideas:

#1:
#/time/year/track/year (and maybe others) have a mostly fixed width. It is a bit annoying, when you have wide year column, but can't see the whole name of the tack.

#2:
It is annoying to have to change the size of several columns, if I want to see the end of one. For instance a very long title will give problems, because, when I pull the width I hit a barrier at one point. Then I have to either increase the width of the window or reduce the size of other columns.

#3:When #2 is done, then you have to reverse it to get back to your normal view.

Haha,

how many screenshots did you need to get it? It doesn't last many frames.

I like it. Really good idea.

Wow... I am now utterly lost on anything. Soon cog will need one of those paper layovers for the keybord we used to have back when nothing was obvious and everything needed a key combination.

User choice is good, limiting choice is bad. Yes. But hold the reins for a moment.

#1:
Any key combination that does anything else than desired (including the slow animation with shift) is a bug. It will be reported by users. And some kind of official apple police should cease and arrest people who knowingly does something like that. It cannot be necessary.

#2:
I like the clear playlist on add feature. I like the play on add feature. I chose those settings. I am aware that I chose those setting. It will take me longer to remember the key combination, than to change the preference back, should I need it.

#3:
Most people are like me. They get an app. Play around with it. Adjust the preferences. Live with their choice. For hardcore users, who handle sound files on a more or less professional basis, all the key combinations might be useful. For most other people, they don't matter. Granted, the power users, should have their say, and shortcuts don't affect people who don't know them. But still the discussion seems out of hand.

#4:
One day in the future, cog will have a preference for showing advanced prefs. And the advanced prefs will feature fully customizable shortcuts. I know we are far from that point, but at the moment we are wasting time on a temporary solution.

#5:
How difficult is it to crank open the app in interface builder and change the shortcuts? Post a guide for it, and lets get on with it.

#6:
All work, no beer, makes Zitz go something, something. I just started a new job. I sleep too little, drink too little and work too much. Gets cranky. From now on I promise not to add anything to this thread unless I have something really clever to say. Maybe I should ban myself until after the weekend.

Enjoy the Friday, and may the sun shine upon you all, where ever you are.

Hey Martin

Sorry... Usually someone knows and reacts quite fast.

Conrats on your Linn music thingy... Whatever that might be.

Cheers

That is actually a good idea. I am always a bit baffled about the customise toolbar feature, when I can't add anything

Seems like many people are waiting anxiously for those

Wow, that could collapse the universe... Maybe.

I don't want this, I think it bloats cog, without offering lots of benefit. Randomising albums can be done by hand when adding to the playlist.

m3u in an m3u might be good because I wouldn't know it was there...

@TheWizard: Cool

@Remain: Darn it. Didn't know that. Just searched for one of your previous posts. What version number changes? Is it before 0.07?

Sure, I am here anyways.

Edit: Oh and congratulations on spam becoming an increasing problem

No hurries. Just do what you think is fun and useful, I don't know how many will need this. Though remain, I and you might be a solid guess.

Hey.

I haven't seen spam comments before in here. Is it a common problem for forums??

I don't need it myself, but I understand your point about playlists... At least if you have gargantuan lists. And remembering position could be interesting.

What I really need is a program, that can detect when I fall asleep and the pause. Often audiobooks come in long files an hour or longer, and then it is really annoying to have to search for the last bit I can remember hearing. Still waiting for the future to hit me.

Hey

I have realised that I read every single entry in the forum. Is there a way to subscribe or rss'ing the entire forum?

Hey Martin

Welcome to the forums. I don't know the answer, but I am almost certain, that someone here does. So if you are are little patient someone will help. I usually subscribe to my own requests, just to be certain, that I catch the reply.

Cheers

Yeah. I didn't think about that. There is pause.

Hey guys

I know the sound slider is under development, but I have a suggestion.

In several movie players for the web, when you press the sound button you mute the sound, while holding the button allows you to adjust the volume. Nifty.

Maybe it isn't as practical in an audio player app because the adjustments should be more precise. Wht do you say?

Cheers

Welcome to the forums. I think all the features you propose have been discussed elsewhere, I can't remember if anyone of them is going into the 0.08 version.

Quite a few things have improved in 0.08 and you can get it by setting your update preference to nightlies. (not 100% stable though)

Update: Clear playlist on add is planned for 0.08 and so is playback on open. But they haven't been implemented yet

Cog should be included in the applications, that support growl on the growl homepage.
