Another option is to set up a sound device with soundflower and use AU Lab from Apple (free) to do the same. I used to do that but it is not a good solution. It also doubles the cpu power used, compared to Play at least!

If the current design does not allow the placement of the status symbols (play, stop, pause) in an optimal position, where they can be seen independently from the user background behind the dock, then the design *has* to be changed.
No way a design is kept if it does not contributes to the usability, since that is the *real* goal of the design itself (in this field, at least: this is not about fashion but about a software people will actually use).

I find the design of post 82 quite bad, as the pictures itself show. The conceptual design in the post 75 is instead good in every situation. The content of the inner part of the icon can be changed, the status symbols can be made more defined, but the design is going in the right direction.

My idea from a user point of view.

The files are local, it happens only when the output is an "Aggregate device". Or maybe when such device is made also of a Soundflower virtual output?

I noticed that the last nightly has no more the file panel, but only a pane.
I don't know why it was removed, but conceptually it makes absolutely no sense: the file panel is something that requires different size than the main window (the folder structure, with the different depth, has obviously different requirements than a simple list of songs

Time for a release?

I didn't want to attack you, but many of the last ideas were so user-unfriendly that I wanted to list some of the guidelines that icon designers should follow.

Anyway, I agree with the idea of removing the inner rim, but I would avoid green/brown contrast... people with impaired vision should not be excluded (-> high "brightness" contrast is important), but let's not forget that most of the people will have good vision: green/brown is horrible in my opinion! ;-)

Update: I found that my sound card was set to 44100 Hz/24 bit, while this iMac can up to 96k  Hz/24 bit. I set it to the maximum capabilities and now the problem seems solved.

The error message "recoverable error" in the console is still there.
