In my long, sad absence from the Cog forums, I ended up selling my MacBook Pro to get a shiny new iMac. I can assure you that the media keys work as expected

Actually, if they're both running then they'll both respond to the keypress. Never even occurred to me to test it with both Cog and iTunes running simultaneously.
I figured that, but I don't consider that to happen very often. I was just worried that iTunes would launch or something when one of them are pressed.
thats awesome... i bought the little bluetooth version of that keyboard last night, brought it home and hit play expecting it to start playing some random crap from itunes. i was very surprised to find out that it can control Cog.

The multimedia keys work absolutely fine. However I have iTunes open most of the time because of my iPhone. So both programs respond to keypresses. Is there a way to stop iTunes to listen to the multimedia keys?
There's a very simple way: delete iTunes. XD XD
(On a more serious note, no, don't actually delete it, seeing as it's an app that comes with Mac OS.)
No, I don't think there's a way to stop certain apps from reacting to the media keys.
Yeah, I myself sometimes wished there were a way, particularly when I'm using both Cog and QuickTime Player.
However, you can use Cog's Hot Keys instead of the keyboard's media keys.
The Hot Keys will work while focused on any program, just like the media keys, but unlike the media keys, it only controls Cog.
You can set the Hot Keys in Cog's Preferences.
Alternatively, you could go into System Preferences and check the box that forces you to to use the Fn key (above Delete on my full wired k/b) then set up Cog to respond to the multimedia keys' corresponding F-key. Eg: F7 for Previous, F8 for Play/Pause, etc. That way it looks and feels like you're using the multimedia keys without the fear of accidentally activating iTunes.
I haven't tried this but it should work...
A simple way to leave iTunes running but inhibit media keys behavior: select the Store or a device (e.g. iPhone) in the left column -- any selection that puts iTunes' playback buttons into a disabled state.
I have some news on this thread.
By editing the following file you will disable the use of media keys in itunes, which means: using the keys with cog without starting/playing/pausing itunes and i am sooo ok with this
Here we go:
(1) ~/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Info.plist
Open the File either with a .plist editor or a text editor which can open .plist files such as textwrangler (textedit should do it too, just "open with..").
(2) Edit the following line:
<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
<string>com.apple.iTunes</string>
into something like:
<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
<string>com.apple.iTunez</string>
(3) Try it 
Worked for me, hope it works for you too. (Note: It may be necessary to take itunes out of the app-folder and then put it back in - so the system reads the new .plist file)

I have itunes 9.2 installed and it doesn't work for me... 
iTunes starts either but doesn't play automatically, only after pressing the Play/Pause Keyboard-button again ist starts playing...
hazett did you try the method i mentioned? Did you take itunes out of the app-folder and then put it back in? Didn't a restart help either?
edit: did anyone else try it..? .. anyone?
