Re: 0.08 Icons/Images - Help Wanted!
I like Cog's current icon too much. Maybe someday icons will be customizable, but for now I'm keeping it.

Icon Nazi!
;p
Well then, I'd suggest making the play/pause/stop icons just slightly bigger. At the size that I keep my Dock icons (which is not excessively minuscule or anything), it's a bit difficult to make out the 'current status' icon at a glance.
@remain:
I am currently using these icons with the new status-feature:

I have zipped a folder with the .icns and the .png-files and uploaded them here, if you're interested.
You just throw the files in the "Resources" folder, overwriting the originals, inside the Cog.app if you want to use it.
@vspader:
No offense to you, but I just think your sentimental feelings for the icon are exclusively yours ![]()
I do understand that, though.

^ I shall try those when I have access to zeh Mac.
But I'm pretty sure I'll find that those status icons will be much too small, seeing as I keep my Dock icons at approx. 32 pixels wide.
Even this is nicer looking, I would've preferred the older one where the status icon is a big icon in the middle.
Otherwise, I still like this icon very much.

Well, Cog is vspader's baby (or "creation" if it's any less creepy), so it's understandable that if there's certain aspect of it he especially likes, it won't be that easy to just convince him to change it just like that.
Perhaps what would be ideal is full blown customization options like Adium, where you can change stuff, namely the Dock icon in our case. (If I remember correctly, we also discussed long ago the idea of letting the user choose the file icons as well.)
But of course, this won't be happening for a looong time, if at all.

Yep, it's official; I can't see sh**. ;p
I would really prefer having a big status icon in the middle, like in the previous concept pictures.
But otherwise, it looks pretty darn nice.

Me too, but with the current setup, that can not be done.
The icon is placed in the bottom right, navigating from the top left corner of the .png file.
I'll try resizing it, but I don't think it will be pretty ![]()

This is what became of it. It's actually a lot better, I think. Might need to come up with a better look for the badges, though.

Here's a nifty set of icons I found while looking around. Don't know if they've been posted already, but it wouldn't hurt. Comes in a bunch of cool colors too

(edit: removed image as it was inappropriately large; a link is in its place)

If the current design does not allow the placement of the status symbols (play, stop, pause) in an optimal position, where they can be seen independently from the user background behind the dock, then the design *has* to be changed.
No way a design is kept if it does not contributes to the usability, since that is the *real* goal of the design itself (in this field, at least: this is not about fashion but about a software people will actually use).
I find the design of post 82 quite bad, as the pictures itself show. The conceptual design in the post 75 is instead good in every situation. The content of the inner part of the icon can be changed, the status symbols can be made more defined, but the design is going in the right direction.
My idea from a user point of view.

I agree, and I would definitely change it if I could.
Approved :-)
Just messing around a bit with the last mockup

The picture is not showing for some reason.
You can use bayimg.org, they let your pictures stay forever
The iTunish look is nice.
I am (very) slowly doing my way in creating an icon. I will post here when I have somewhat more complete version.
Hello everybody,
at first let me give a big thank for the great cog app!! Keep on the amazing work!
Having upgraded to SL I entered the BIG icon nirvana, but I noticed that the Cog icon, which permanently stays on my dock needed a little restyle. I liked the original idea so I tried to stay as near as possible to it.
It's my first icon work so it's not a masterpiece, but I thought it still was worth sharing.
So please use it as you like:

And:

The zip files contains a icns icon in 512, 256, 128, 32, 16 square pixel size, plus the three badges in 32x32 px.

I read that!
But you can customize your own icon and badges just by replacing the files inside the app package ![]()
It's really easy!

hi all, i joined today,
awesome player!! Is there still the need for this;
We need the following toolbar icons:
Repeat None
Repeat One
Repeat Album
Repeat All
Shuffle On
Shuffle Off
Volume
Previous
Play
Next
File Tree
Spotlight
Info
Also, we need the following status icons:
Playing
Queued
Error
And if so would animated gifs be possible?

Damn, those are spiffy!
It's still somewhat of a problem that the badges can't be placed in the middle of the icon, though
You should try making them bigger, they're a bit small in the dock
Otherwise, very stylish piece of work

I made a little alteration to my previous design.
I think it would be better just to eliminate the stop-badge.
It's not really necessary, when you think about it.

Again, I've zipped the updated version and put it here
..if this thread hasn't completely died out, anyway ![]()

Slick as always.
However, I still have the same issue as some of the other ones: at small Dock icon sizes, the Play and Pause symbols are very, very tiny.
I thought having the actual Play/Pause symbols not be in a container (that gray/silver rectangle) would be better.
Like this:

(except I would personally like the symbols to be a bit bigger)
The symbols would be bigger, and since the symbols would not be 'contained' within the same shape (a rectangle) as is the case in the latest version, then the symbols would be easier to recognize and distinguish.
I also thought having the symbol be in the middle of the icon was also good.
Like this:

This would allow the symbols to be large enough even in small Dock icon sizes, thus always easy to recognize and distinguish.

I absolutely agree, but it's not possible for me at the moment.
I've just tried to make the best of the current situation, but I will have a look at the source code and see what I can dig up.
